E-Waste Game
"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"
Art by Judith van Puffelen
About projectThe E-Waste Game was the first freelance project since graduating from my bachelor's. E-Waste Race, a company which organizes events in middle schools in order to raise awareness for electronic waste, requested a game to be made as a replacement for their usual "races" during the summer of 2015. The aim was for the game to reflect their core values and teach players various titbits about electronic waste and the importance of recycling.
Through various milestone meetings with the client the game took shape as a collection of minigames, with information being provided in the form of newspaper articles collected during play. Players would use the information gleamed from these articles to unlock additional minigames. The client requested minor improvements and stand-alone versions of the minigames for use in an arcade machine early 2016. Standalone versions feature a highscore ranking and an arcade-style name entry upon entering the highscore list. |
Individual roleDuring this project I was responsible for everything aside from the production of art assets, since I only had a very limited amount of time to deliver. Art was outsourced to Judith van Puffelen by way of asset request lists coupled with screen mockups.
While I had some prior experience managing commercial clients for the NHTV, this was essentially my first solo experience with regards to managing a client and scheduling meetings on top of designing and functionally creating a collection of games. This project turned out to be a good "proof of concept" for my skillset. During this project I significantly improved my proficiency with Unity, as well as programming in C#. |
